On the sidelines of 16th WETEX 2014

Dubai, UAE, 7 February 2014: Alongside the 16th Water, Energy, Technology and Environment Exhibition (WETEX) 2014, which is organised under the directive of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai and under the patronage of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Minister of Finance and DEWA President, DEWA is organizing SmarTech, an event showcasing solutions, products and green buildings related-technologies targeting the commercial and industrial sectors, from 14th – 16th April 2014 at the International Convention and Exhibition Centre.

For the first time ever, SmarTech Shopper which targets the consumer sector, will be held under the theme ‘Better Life’ alongside SmarTech, where exhibitors will showcase various eco-friendly household appliances and solutions.

SmarTech Shopper will be open to the public, and will offer special discounts on household appliances and products.

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy and Managing Director and CEO of DEWA said: “SmarTech is in line with our vision to become an international sustainable entity. At DEWA, we adopt best technology solutions that contribute to enhancing our operational efficiency and raise quality of services. The event offers an ideal platform to enhance awareness and highlight eco friendly solutions. Moreover, it opens dialogue channels with all society segments which are major electricity and water consumers and enhance their awareness about the importance of rationalizing consumption.”

The hosting of SmarTech Shopper stems from DEWA’s commitment to the Smart City initiative that seeks to manage the emirate’s facilities and services through intelligent and interconnected systems compatible with smart home-appliances to ensure the highest standards of environment sustainability.

Al Tayer added Smartech is part of DEWA's relentless efforts to rationalize electricity and water consumption where it organizes awareness campaigns and social communication targeting all segments of the society including different ages and cultures to highlight the society's' responsibility in rationalizing electricity and water consumption. Smar Tech works on spreading technologies and tools that help in rationalizing consumption of electricity and water to preserve environment resources.

HE Al Tayer said electricity, water and environment companies are looking at SmarTech Shopper as an ideal opportunity to enhance communication with customers and acquaint themselves with latest solutions for reducing consumption of electricity and water.

HE Al Tayer added: "We recognize the importance of providing environmental friendly as part of our vision of raising awareness among consumers about the importance of sustainable environment for future generations. We have signed during previous editions of WETEX and through this event a series of agreements and MoUs to provide these products to the consumers with the goal of reducing electricity consumption and conserving resources.”

Launched in 2011 edition, the event is organized to encourage participating companies and consumers visitors to adopt best environmental friendly and rationalize energy consumption.

The 4th SmarTech also showcases latest products and technologies related to energy efficiency, water green technology and customized solutions for residential buildings and institutions. It is a global platform that attracts a wide range of brands, manufacturers, distributors and investors to participate and promote their products, concepts, services and green solutions.

SmarTech is a first of its kind event in the Arab World, aimed at forging partnerships and business networking opportunities. The event aims to highlight the region’s environmental strategies and raise awareness of creating a culture of sustainable development, conservation of natural resources as well as minimizing depletion to the lowest level possible.

The event, which targets consumers and business sectors, provides over three days series of lectures and educational seminars as well as specialised workshops, to enable exhibitors to discuss the latest developments, technology solutions, innovation and research in the field of efficiency and rational use of energy and water consumption.

DEWA uses various channels to raise highlight the importance of rational consumption of water and electricity and motivate them to use green products that are available at competitive prices compared to the conventional ones.

The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) was formed on 1 January, 1992, by a decree issued by HH Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum to take over and merge the Dubai Electric Company and the Dubai Water Department that had been operating independently for several years until then. Both these organizations were established in 1959 through the foresight and initiative of HH Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, the late Ruler of Dubai, as government supported bodies with the objective of making available to the people of Dubai an adequate and reliable supply of electricity and water.

Today, after five decades, DEWA is an inspiring success story known for its efficiency and reliability in every facet of its operations. Constant planning and forecasting to meet the growing demands of the customer has always been DEWAs well entrenched philosophy. Owing to this policy, DEWA has come a long way in serving the customers and thereby making its own contributions to the economic growth of Dubai.

Today DEWA employees a workforce more than 9,000 employees who constantly endeavour to see that both the quantity and quality of services provided are of the highest standards in consistency and reliability.
