Dubai, UAE - (18/08/15) – The National Center of Meteorology & Seismology (NCMS), the UAE’s official source of meteorological and seismic data and information, today announced its partnership with WeatherTech GCC to organize the first conference to bring together GCC meteorology experts to optimize next generation technologies to revolutionize the collection, analysis and distribution of meteorological & climatological data and services in the GCC. WeatherTech GCC will take place at the Sheraton Grand Hotel, Dubai from 16 - 17 September 2015.

“WeatherTech GCC is the first dedicated platform for GCC weather and environmental management. “NCMS is looking forward having the opportunity to lead the way for improvement in cooperation with our GCC colleagues and is delighted to collaborate with WeatherTech GCC to work towards this goal” said H.E Abdulla Ahmed Al Mandoos, Executive Director at National Center of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS). “We are committed to providing high quality, accurate and timely early warning and advisories against extreme weather conditions to support disaster risk reduction and risk management efforts in the UAE; This is the contribution of NCMS to promote the delivery of the national 2021 vision of continued strong economic growth and leadership through innovation and technology advancement”.

WeatherTech GCC will bring together international experts, GCC federal and national meteorology and environment organizations with industry representatives from Aviation, Oil and Gas, Marine and Media to discuss next-generation weather forecasting and measurement technologies and services. This event will feature speakers that are innovators, practitioners and leaders in their fields. This interactive and engaging event platform will share examples of regionally applied best practice, ground-breaking solutions and insights into new technologies as well as discuss the integration of existing systems and operations and the need for better communication to share intelligence between nations.

“This collaboration addresses a specific market need: end users from both the public and private sectors require accurate weather forecast predictions to enable their operations to continue without risk of interruption. The impact of weather conditions on national development cannot be underestimated,” said Sarah Phillips, Event Director for WeatherTech GCC from Advanced Conferences & Meetings. “We are proud to partner with NCMS as we share a common goal to improve weather forecasting data collection and analysis with the objective of improving quality and reliability of information supplied to end users”.

The format of this event will, in addition to providing a premium conference experience, provide a hub for new connections, exhibition space for solution providers, informal coffee networking breaks and a business lunch in order to enable networking with industry peers, regulators and suppliers.

The NCMS collects meteorological and seismic information, monitors the changes that occur in the atmosphere, and provides meteorological services and seismic data for the benefit of the concerned authorities in the UAE and in cooperation with other regional and international organizations. The Center is also managing the UAE Research Program for Rain Enhancement Science, an international research initiative designed to stimulate and promote scientific advancement and the development of new technology in this area. Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, the Ministry of Presidential Affairs established this Program and its grant awarding functions as one of the seven pillars of the UAE’s Innovation Strategy. 2015 sees the inaugural cycle of the UAE Research Program for Rain Enhancement Science, when up to five projects will be selected as winners for the total grant of US$5 million that will be awarded over a three year period. The prize winning project proposals will be announced and honored at a ceremony in January 2016.
