A feature that enables Starbucks customers to place an order via its app ahead of arriving to collect in their local stores is to be extended to select stores in the UK and Canada in October.

The coffee giant also announced Mobile Order & Pay is now available nationwide in the US for both iOS and Android devices, in what has been a rapid rollout.

Starbucks previously talked about rolling out the feature internationally but only specified a debut before the end of 2015, without giving more detail.

Following an initial test of Mobile Order & Pay in Portland, Oregon, in December 2014 and subsequent launch across the Pacific Northwest in March 2015, the company spread the programme to 3,400 more stores in 17 US states earlier in the summer.

The completion of the national rollout means mobile ordering is now available on both iOS and Android devices to use at Starbucks’ more than 7,400 company-owned stores across the States.

The Mobile Order & Pay feature allows customers to pick a store from a map view, browse, select and choose drink and food, view the estimated timeframe in which the order will be ready, and pre-pay for it, all within the Starbucks app. The user can then go to the store in the allotted time to collect their order from the bar area.
