US Consul General lauds Dubai’s quick adoption of district cooling (DC) technologies

Empower CEO attributes the achievement to the vision of Dubai Government and facilities offered to local DC companies

Dubai, UAE, 16th September 2011: The US Consul General Justin H. Siberell has lauded the quick adoption of district cooling (DC) technologies in Dubai, during a visit to the office of Ahmad Bin Shafar, CEO of Emirates Central Cooling Corporation (Empower), the largest district cooling service provider in the region. He was accompanied by Mr. Robert Bannerman, Commercial Attache.

Bin Shafar attributed Dubai’s record in harnessing DC technologies in quick time to the vision of the Dubai Government and facilities offered to local DC companies.

The meeting stressed the need for boosting cooperation and exchanging expertise between Empower and US companies engaged in the energy sector, as one of the most promising prospects for US Exports to the Middle East is in the area of air conditioning and refrigeration equipment.

Bin Shafar highlighted the importance of boosting bilateral ties between UAE and USA in the light of the leading role played by the UAE in the region and as USA is one of the major exporters to the Middle East.
The delegation lauded the investment climate in Dubai and the UAE. HE Siberell hailed the Emirate as a leading IT, tourism, trade and education hub in the region.

The UAE is considered the biggest importer to American products in the region. Recently, the 40th anniversary of U.S.-UAE diplomatic relations was celebrated. The delegation praised the far-sighted vision of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

Bin Shafar said: “Empower has succeeded in building world class district cooling infrastructure that is considered an ideal economic and environmental solution for residential and commercial units, offices and hotels in the UAE. People and businesses are becoming increasingly aware of the importance of using district cooling system as an alternative to conventional AC systems, leading to energy saving and environment conservation.”

The Dubai based company tops the list of companies providing district cooling services in the region. It adopts a clear strategy to preserve environment through aggressively disseminating this technology and conducting campaigns to highlight its strategic value in the short and long run to the people and the society in general.

In the meeting, challenges and potential of the district cooling industry was discussed as well as the importance of increasing tie ups between private and public sector to further boost the DC sector in the region.
